S T A T E M E N T
I’m drawn to art with visual rhythms, and my curiosity is sparked by art that contributes to the
social conscience of our community.
I'm inspired by what is left of what is natural. Movement, shown through composition, geometric form,
and modulation of color, guides me. My focus is a semi-representational graphic aesthetic that also
deeply values visible signs of life, mood, or emotion. When I draw in charcoal, or I paint in soft
vibrant acrylic, I’m aware of a sensual tradition that goes back to oil, back to earlier pigments,
back to the cave. It's an activity that humans have always needed. It's part of living.
In addition to raising awareness, art can have a healing purpose. Art can act as a buffer between
the viewer and the reality, allowing an easy understanding of reality at a rate the viewer can absorb.
This opens a fresh perspective, increasing our ability to change for the better.
My deep love of history and my evolving drive to jump into the future are flip sides of my art.
I was born and raised in San Francisco, and am a summa cum laude graduate of the University of
San Francisco (BA in Fine Art, 2011). I received the Father Flynn Award that year for the highest
cumulative GPA in our graduating class, university-wide. I also continue to volunteer with the
San Francisco Zoo, and am an on-call educator at the Children's Creativity Museum.
